Dunmow Carnival 2009

This weekend is obviously an adventurous one for us; this time last year we moved into the school and this weekend just gone we took part in the local carnival. There were lots of firsts for us! Our first time putting together a float for the carnival; our first time at joining a large community event and our first trophies - we just need to buy a cabinet to display our treasures!

What an amazing weekend. Tracey Bratley and Katie East were the main drivers behind our entry into the carnival. They had the vision and determination. Thankfully we had lots of helpers along the way who gave up their time and put in a huge amount of work.

The carnival theme was Heroes and Villains which fitted in really well with our support for Great Ormond Street who have connections with J.M. Barrie and Peter Pan. Thus our theme was set.

Keir, our Chair of Governors, set to building a ship, under strict supervision and creative direction from his wife Janet, who was also the brains behind our crocodile chain. Peter, another one of our Governors and grandparent to one of our pupils, donated the use of his truck and even his daughter, Eleanor, to drive it. David, another grandparent, donated and helped paint the ship. Our family groups of children were also busy painting - with real paint!!! and making fish, cannons etc for the ship. Many other parents and grandparents also came in to help during the week running up to the event. Not to mention staff staying late to put things together.

A truly whole school community event.

Virtually the whole school were able to take part on the day and it was marvellous to see so many people make such a great effort with their costumes. It was an exciting event of which to be a part. The icing on the cake was to receive first prize in our category and the cherry on the top was to be voted Overall Winners. We are definitely on the map!

Thank you.

Fun Day 2009

Well done and thank you to all those who put together our first Fun Day. It was fantastic to see so many joining in the fun, not just from our school but from our local community. The event was a huge success with all ages enjoying the wide variety of activities. Early figures suggest that Friends of Flitch Green raised over £2000 from the day. Mmmmm.... I’m sure we can think of something suitable for the children to enjoy with the monies.

Thank you once again for everyone's support of the school. It was lovely to see the whole school community come together to have some fun!

If you have some photographs of the fun day you would like to share with us, please drop them into the school. I forgot my camera that day!
